In 2012, the Blackwing Experience took New York City by storm. The weeklong exhibit dedicated to the wood-cased pencil and the creativity it can enable entertained and enlightened over 1,000 artists, musicians and everyday people. This past June, the Experience opened on the west coast for a weeklong stay at the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity in Orange County. Named for Oscar winning animator – and Blackwing fan – Chuck Jones, the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity was the perfect venue that hosted a full schedule of events including:
- The Party for the Pencil II
- ChuckTalk: a panel discussion on the evolution of the creative process featuring Charles Solomon, Jenny Lerew, Craig Kausen, Charles Berolzheimer and Christian Tamburr
- Blackwing Foundation benefit concert with Andrew Combs, Willie Watson and Willy Tea Taylor
- Creativity Camp for kids 7-12
- Creativity Exhibit honoring the history of the woodcased pencil

An evening of songs and stories with ANDREW COMBS, WILLIE WATSON and WILLY TEA TAYLOR
On Thursday, June 27, 2013, Palomino hosted a special evening of incredible songs and stories with acclaimed singer/songwriters ANDREW COMBS, WILLIE WATSON (Old Crow Medicine Show) and WILLY TEA TAYLOR (Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit). The evening featured a set of solo performances and a very special “In the Row” session where all three songwriters took the stage together to play songs and discuss the inspiration behind them.
Proceeds benefited the Blackwing Foundation in support of arts and music education in schools.
