FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 11, 2011
Stockton, CA – Pencil enthusiasts around the world have been waiting for a suitable replacement for the Eberhard-Faber Blackwing 602, one of the most highly sought-after pencils ever made. At next week’s National Stationery Show, held in the Javits Center in New York City, Palomino will unveil the Palomino Blackwing 602, a pencil modeled after its Eberhard-Faber counterpart.
When the Eberhard-Faber Blackwing 602 was still in production, it was widely used by artists and illustrators, with many calling it the best pencil ever designed. The product line was eventually sold and production of the Eberhard-Faber model ceased in 1998. Even so, fans continue to seek out these pencils, many paying upwards of $40 per pencil.
Last October, Palomino rolled out the Palomino Blackwing, which used the same unique ferrule and eraser design as the Eberhard-Faber, but featured a slightly softer, smoother lead formulation and black finish. The new Blackwing 602 that will be unveiled at the National Stationery Show is modeled more closely after the original, using a new specially formulated firm and smooth graphite lead while maintaining the iconic rectangular eraser and original shaft color.
After its NSS introduction, the new Blackwing 602 will be available for purchase for the first time at Pencils.com in early June.
The 2011 National Stationery Show marks the first exhibiting appearance by Palomino (Booth #3610). In addition to the first-look at the Blackwing 602 pencil, Palomino will also give show attendees a sneak peak at their new line of luxury notebooks and sketchbooks set to debut this summer.
Pencils.com will also use the show as a platform to roll out their retail sales program. Beginning May 15th, the growing California Republic family of products, including the acclaimed Palomino and Blackwing brands, will be available to retailers nationwide.
Pencils.com was launched in 2008 to provide pencil consumers and enthusiasts with a one-stop location for all things pencil related. Pencils.com is a business unit of California Cedar Products Company, the world’s largest manufacturer of wooden pencil slats and makers of the Palomino family of writing, arts and stationery items.
