The Palomino graded graphite pencil is the pencil that inspired the revival of the Blackwing 602. Let that sink in for a moment.
Bloggers, artists and pencil enthusiasts compared the graphite found in our Palomino graded graphite pencil to the graphite found in the Eberhard Faber Blackwing 602 and asked us to bring back the Blackwing’s iconic ferrule and eraser design. We went one better and revived the Blackwing entirely (if you aren’t caught up on all of that, check out some Blackwing reviews here). Still, the Palomino graded graphite pencil has quite a bit to live up to, which is why we decided to give it a fresh new design for 2014.
The original design of our Palomino graded graphite pencils featured gold foil lettering and our signature orange lacquer finish. The result was a pencil that looked luxurious, but some artists found it was difficult to distinguish between the different graphite grades we offer. So, we went back to the drawing board and put together a new design to address the needs of retailers and end users.
The new design features our signature orange finish with the Palomino logo in clean, black lettering. The end-dipped portion of the pencil features a black finish and the graphite grade printed in white lettering on two sides of the hexagonal barrel, making it easy to distinguish between different graphite grades. The new finish and lettering also makes merchandising the pencils in our spinner display more intuitive and aesthetically appealing. Furthermore, each pencil now features a scannable barcode printed right on the barrel, so retailers selling individual Palomino pencils can scan the pencil directly into their POS system.
Palomino graded graphite pencils are available in mixed grade sets or 12 packs. Available graphite grades are 2H, H, HB, B, 2B, 4B, and 6B. The Palomino mixed grade set comes with the following graphite grades: 2H, H, HB (2), B, 2B, 4B and 6B.
