The ForestChoice Story

Before there was Palomino Blackwing and before there were other FSC-certified pencils, there was ForestChoice, the world’s first Forest Stewardship Council-certified pencil.

In 1999, Cal Cedar introduced the ForestChoice pencil as a high-qualiy, FSC-certified alternative to the standard number-2 pencils on the market. FSC certification means that all of the wood used during the creation of ForestChoice pencils is sourced from well-managed forests operating under the most stringent practices for environmental responsibility, social benefit and long-term economic viability, a far cry from many of the number-2 pencils being manufactured around the world today.

Every ForestChoice pencil is made out of FSC-certified genuine California Incense-cedar, allowing for exceptional sharpening performance and a beautiful natural finish. ForestChoice pencils also feature graphite cores that create smooth, solid lines and resist breakage. Since their inception, ForestChoice pencils have continued to be one of the most ecologically sound implements of expression on the market.

Following the release and success of the original ForestChoice graphite pencil, Palomino introduced FSC-certified ForestChoice color pencils and ForestChoice carpenter pencils. Then, in 2011, Palomino introduced the ForestChoice notebook range containing hardcover notebooks, flex notebooks and reporter pads that all bear the FSC-certified stamp.

Each ForestChoice notebook is tastefully designed to combine modern technology, premium materials from Spain and Italy, and traditional artisanship, perfected by generations of Turkish printers and bookbinders.

ForestChoice is good for the artist, good for the writer, good for the environment.
